LA QUINTA CITY COUNCIL CANDIDACY
Candidate Statement – Robert F. Sylk
As a La Quinta resident I am very proud of the growth and the
quality of life in our community. With the newly approved expanded
sphere of influence, we can expect to see growth and development
continue for some time. I support the management of this growth
in a responsible manner for benefit of all residents including
the development of affordable housing.
I am familiar with city government from my positions as Board
Member of the La Quinta Chamber of Commerce and Vice Chairman of
the City of La Quinta Community Services Commission. As a La Quinta
City Councilman, my door will always be open to all residents,
landowners, developers and business owners. I will listen to what
everyone has to say about how the City is run and how it is to
grow. I will work hard on the important issues of law enforcement,
maintaining quality schools, creating local jobs, preserving neighborhoods
by maintaining parks, minimizing traffic and keeping our streets
safe.
I have been fortunate to have had a very successful business career
and have given back much in various philanthropic efforts. As a
City Councilman, I will work tirelessly to give back in my ability
to preserve and improve our great quality of life.
I have always been honest and trustworthy in my civic and business
dealings and I will be an effective voice for the people of La Quinta.
If elected, I would start by evaluating the positions that the City
is taking on the major issues to see if they are in line with the
best interest of the residents and business owners. I will focus
on issues of responsible growth, community services development and
quality of life in our community.

Voting on the party line: Partisanship finding
a place in Coachella Valley's nonpartisan elections
Experts say it could bring more local votes

A campaign poster for La Quinta city council candidate Robert Sylk

for a nonpartisan office. (Crystal Chatham, The Desert Sun)
Party signs
Candidates in nonpartisan races are not allowed to put their political
party on the ballot.
But that's not stopping them from making their affiliations known
to voters.
In La Quinta, candidate Robert Sylk proclaimed his GOP ties on
campaign yard signs.
“I'm a Republican and I'm proud to be a Republican,” Sylk
said. “I'm not shying away from it, even though it's nonpartisan.”
It's a different approach from when Sylk ran for council two years
ago. But he says it has nothing to do with the fact that the city
is considered Republican territory.
“The residents of La Quinta are very aware of what's going
on,” he said. “They don't vote for party lines. They
vote for the best person.”

Robert Sylk is recommended

I am writing today to recommend the election of Robert Sylk to
the La Quinta City Council.
I have known Sylk for several years and have worked with him on
the Community Services Commission. I think that he has a number
of characteristics that recommend him.
First, he is a man who has ideas which will benefit the community
at large. Although many of us have ideas, Sylk has the energy to
move ideas forward to become realities. He is outgoing with many
contacts in the business community which will be helpful in bringing
about change and improvement in the city.

La Quinta City Council Election, Robert Sylk
deserves support

The Desert Sun
This is regarding Robert Sylk running for councilman in La Quinta.
I moved here from Marina del Rey and have worked closely with Robert
in the past.
He started the City of Hope chapter in Marina del Rey and was
involved with many fundraisers for City of Hope. He has served
on numerous councils and boards in the community in an exemplary
fashion.
I worked with him when he put on the Music Festival and Food & Wine
Festival in Marina del Rey. He made a difference in our community
and I know he can do the same for La Quinta if given the opportunity
to serve as councilman.
Thank you for allowing me to share my thoughts about Robert Sylk.
Hopefully he will be elected as La Quinta's new councilman.
